Olga Elizabeth C.Bothe - Texas

Director / Co-Head Texas; Former Board Member

Olga’s son, Drew, was diagnosed with a Syngap mutation in June 2013 at five years old. When Drew was not meeting his developmental milestones therapies and testing began in infancy. After four years of exhaustive investigation Drew’s rare condition was confirmed via the whole exome sequencing test granted by Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

As the parent of a newly diagnosed child with a rare disease Olga became actively involved in promoting Syngap awareness in addition to facilitating fund raising for medical research.  Determined to further research with the view to finding a treatment for Syngap she discovered Dr. Jimmy Holder, a research neurologist at Baylor College of Medicine.  Dr. Holder’s lab is now a Syngap Center of Excellence.  Olga’s professional background is in the healthcare industry to include sales & marketing in employer group benefits and business development.  She attended Texas State University studying business administration and psychology prior to her healthcare career.

Olga and her husband, Mike, reside in the greater Houston area raising their two children, Sara 15, a high school cheerleader, and Drew, who is now 11 years old, in the 5th grade.  As a family they love to travel and enjoy outdoor activities together.  In addition to promoting Syngap awareness and advocating for Rare Disease Olga is an active member of the Baylor Genetics Patient Advisory Board at Texas Children’s Hospital and also the National Charity League.
